Edward has pressed developers William Davis Homes & Leicestershire County Council as the highways authority to act to tackle the unacceptable traffic disruption and congestion in Kirby Muxloe, resulting from the closure of the junction of Desford Road & Ratby Lane for enabling works for the nearby William Davis Homes development, after visiting the site to see the problems for himself.
Alongside the significant negative impact on residents living near to the junction and on the village more widely, and the impact of traffic being diverted, despite restrictions some HGVs have continued to flout the restrictions and to use Main Street, leading to congestion and road safety issues in the village. After visiting the site Edward has called upon the developers to meet with him on site to discuss the steps needed to manage the works more effectively, and to minimise the amount of time the closures need to be in place.
Edward said: "While I recognise these works are necessary for the development, they are having a huge negative impact on the village, both on traffic and on residents' quality of life, so I am calling on the developers to meet with me to come up with a plan to invest more resources in better managing the disruption and traffic impacts, and have raised my concerns with Leicestershire County Council who are monitoring this issue very closely. We need to work together to find a solution to this problem for local Kirby Muxloe residents."
