Edward has served on the Bill Committee considering the ‘Parental Bereavement (Pay and Leave) Bill’ which was introduced by fellow Conservative MP, Kevin Hollinrake, as a Private Member’s Bill last year.
The Bill will allow parents who have suffered the death of a child to be given paid leave to grieve, where there is currently there is no legal requirement for employers in the UK to provide paid leave for grieving parents. The Bill successfully passed this latest stage of its progress through Parliament and brings it another step closer to becoming law.
Edward said: “This is such an important Bill for parents going through the most terrible of times, following the loss of a child. Having spoken in support of the Bill at its Second Reading in Parliament, I was honoured to be asked by my friend and colleague Kevin to serve on the Bill Committee. When passed in to law this Bill will make a real difference by ensuring that every employer has to given an parents who find themselves in this terrible situation the time and space to grieve. I was delighted that the Bill successfully passed this stage of its progress in to law, and was proud to be able to vote in support of it.”
