Edward has met with Highways England's Midlands Operations Director, Catherine Brookes, in Parliament to raise local concerns about issues affecting major roads in the Charnwood constituency, and broader traffic issues.
He highlighted concerns about motorway noise from the M1 in Kirby Muxloe and Leicester Forest East and its impact on local residents, an issue that he has previously raised with Highways England. Although they have no current noise-mitigations plans for this stretch of motorway, Highways England undertook to look in to what options might be available to mitigate the noise impact of heavy traffic volumes on the motorway.
Edward also raised the issue of the cross-over junction on the A46 between Thrussington and Seagrave, which can be dangerous given high volumes of fast traffic on the A46. A site visit by Highways England's regional team and Edward is being planned for the new year, with officials again agreeing to investigate ways it might be possible to make the junction safer.
He also took the opportunity to highlight broader traffic issues affecting Leicestershire, including the increasing volume of traffic and congestion on major roads like the A46, A47, A50, M69 and the M1, and the need for continued investment in the East Midlands' strategic road network to ensure that it continues to meet local needs and supports a growing local economy.
Edward said: "I am grateful to Catherine for what was a wide-ranging and positive meeting about issues affecting the major road network in the constituency, and in Leicestershire more broadly. I was encouraged by her commitment to get her team to look again at the specific issues I raised, and look forward to continuing to work with Highways England on these in the new year to get the solutions our area needs."
