Edward has joined staff at Tesco's local store in Melton Road, Syston to take part in Tesco’s 2017 Christmas Food Collection.
This year’s Food Collection ran from Thursday 30th November to Saturday 2nd December in all stores, and Edward joined local residents and the Syston team on Friday afternoon to encourage people to donate as they do their weekly shop and spread the word about how this vital initiative can change lives over the Christmas period.
The Food Collection is run by Tesco in collaboration with The Trussell Trust and FareShare, and is now in its tenth year. In addition, this year Tesco will donate £1 for every fresh turkey bought instore or online, shared between FareShare and The Trussell Trust to provide much needed support over the festive period. Supermarket collections are one of the main ways that foodbanks are stocked. On top of this, the company pay a 20% financial top-up on all the food that is donated helping local food banks even further.
Edward said: “It was important to me to support Tesco and the Trussell Trust with their local food collection initiative. Foodbanks really do rely on donations of food from supermarket collections and every donation, big or small, helps. I am keen to make sure the local effort is as successful as possible, so will continue to encourage people to donate whatever they can and to support the work of the Trussel Trust and Fareshare, and I want to pay tribute to local volunteers, as well as the many local residents who gave so generously.”
