Charnwood MP, Edward Argar and Loughborough MP, Nicky Morgan, have visited Maplewell Hall School in Woodhouse Eaves to meet staff and parents to discuss Leicestershire County Council's (LCC) proposals to stop funding the residential provision at the school.
Edward and Nicky were joined by local County Councillor, Deborah Taylor, and by Loughborough County Councillor Ted Parton, and as well as having the opportunity to discuss the Council's proposals, were shown around the school by students and staff. LCC's Cabinet recently voted to press ahead with a formal consultation on its proposals to save £293,000 by ceasing to fund the residential provision at the school, a move that has been strongly opposed by Edward, Nicky, and Councillor Taylor.
After the visit Edward said: "Although I have now visited Maplewell Hall School almost half a dozen times since I was elected in 2015, it is always a privilege and pleasure to do so, as every time you come away with the positivity and energy that makes the school so successful. It was good to be joined by Nicky, Deborah and Ted to discuss LCC's proposals with staff and parents. I remain firmly of the view that what is being proposed by LCC is the wrong way forward, and hope that, even at this late stage, they will listen to us and to over 11,000 people who have signed the petition calling on them to stop and think again."
