Edward has met with the Canal and River Trust at an event in Parliament, to discuss our local canal and river network in Leicestershire, and how we can protect and improve it in the future.
The Canal and River Trust is the charity that protects, maintains, and improves over 2000 miles of waterways in England and Wales. The charity relies not just on its staff, but on an army of volunteers across the country to carry out its work on the waterways that form such an important part of our heritage and countryside.
Edward said: "Our rivers and canals are hugely important for leisure activities, but also as a vital part of our environment and countryside. In Leicestershire we are lucky to have some fantastic waterways which thanks to the Canal and River Trust are well maintained and easily accessible. They do a great job so it was good to be able to hear from the Trust about their work, plans for the future, and what is being done to continue to keep our canals and rivers clean and well maintained."
