Edward has called on Leicestershire County Council to inspect street drains in Birstall and clear any that are blocked after cloud bursts earlier in the summer left many temporarily flooded.
Some gullies in School Lane and Birstall Road are completely full of earth with grass growing in them, meaning that any rainwater is unable to drain away, leading to pooling of water and localised flood risk on those roads. It is important that any blocked gullies or drains are identified and cleared.
Edward said: "When I went to see the state of some street drains in Birstall for myself after recent rain, it was clear that some were completely blocked, leading to localised flooding on the road after heavy or sudden rain. It is important that this problem is tackled before we get the autumn and winter rain, and I have taken the issue up with the County Council. I am calling on LCC to inspect the gullies and arrange for blocked drains to be cleared out as soon as possible."
