Edward has met with National Farmers' Union (NFU) President, Meurig Raymond, and representatives of the NFU in the East Midlands in Parliament to highlight the importance of British farming to our economy, our countryside, and to our communities.
As well as discussing issues facing our farmers locally in the East Midlands, Edward backed the NFU's 'Back British Farming' campaign which is aimed at encouraging people to buy British produce; to enjoy our wonderful countryside responsibly; and to support our farmers and the people they employ.
Edward said: "My grandparents were farmers, so I know first-hand how hard our farmers work, and how important British farming is to our economy and to managing our beautiful countryside. The UK exported £13.8bn worth of food and non-alcoholic drinks last year, and farming generates £109bn in value for the UK economy, with over 476,000 people employed on agricultural holdings, producing the fantastic British food and drink we all enjoy. We all need to play our part in supporting them in doing that, which is why I am proud to support the NFU's 'Back British Farming' campaign."
