Following a number of break-ins to businesses in Melton town centre over the Christmas period, Edward has raised local concerns with Melton's Police borough commander, and the Leader of Melton Borough Council, and sought reassurances on the action being taken. Working with our Police, the Police and Crime Commissioner, MBC and other partners to tackle ASB and crime in the town centre remains hugely important, and Edward met with our local police earlier in the autumn to discuss resourcing and local policing priorities, including on-going work to clamp down on crime and ASB locally.
Edward said: "I can entirely appreciate local concerns about the business break-ins that have occurred in Melton Mowbray in recent days, and entirely appreciate the huge impact they have had on businesses and business owners, as well as the wider community in the town. As Melton's local MP, I have written to both the borough Police commander in Melton & the Leader of MBC calling for a swift and effective response to these crimes, and for a progress update on the investigation. I have also asked for updates on the work both the Police and MBC are undertaking to support the affected businesses, and to provide longer term crime prevention support for businesses in the town to help prevent further break-ins, and more broadly partnership work to tackle crime and ASB in Melton town centre. I am grateful for the work the Police & Safer Melton Partnership are doing, and look forward both to the updates, but also to continuing to work with all involved to help make Melton an even safer place."
