Edward has met with Age UK Leicestershire and Rutland’s Director, Tony Donovan, in Leicester to discuss support for older people, the impact of the Government’s employer National Insurance contributions increase on charities, and the impact of the cuts to the winter fuel allowance on vulnerable pensioners locally.
Since first being elected as an MP locally in 2015, Edward has worked with our local branch of Age UK on a number of issues, and fully supports their latest campaign, calling on the Government to reverse its cruel and unnecessary cuts to eligibility for the winter fuel allowance for local pensioners this winter.
Edward said: “It’s always a pleasure to meet with Tony and discuss the fantastic work Age UK is doing locally in our area. We took the opportunity to discuss the impsct of the cuts to winter fuel allowance on vulnerable pensioners, and I expressed my strong support for their calls on the Labour Government to reverse their decision and scrap the cuts. We also discussed the very real impact that the hike to employers’ NICs will have on many charities supporting older people. As Melton and Syston’s local MP, I will continue to stand up for our pensioners, and will continue to oppose the Government’s cruel and unnecessary cuts.”
