Edward has pressed the Government on the £238 million of additional highways funding promised to Leicestershire County Council by the previous Government from 'Network North', that could be used to fund the southern leg of Melton's distributor road, completing the by-pass. In a question in Parliament Edward asked the Secretary of State for Transport when she planned to honour that and make the funding available to LCC.
Edward said: "Working to secure the completion of Melton's by-pass is a priority for me as Melton's local MP This funding, previously promised to LCC, would allow a portion of it to be spent here in Melton, finishing this vital local infrastructure project, and I have already been campaigning for LCC to prioritise it. Worryingly, the new Labour Government has been silent in response to calls to honour the funding pledge, instead so far stating syuch matters are under review. I have tabled this question to try to get an answer from them on whether they'll pay up, or whether they are going to put MMDR (South) at greater risk."
