Edward has visited Queniborough CofE Primary School at the invitation of Executive Headteacher, Hannah Roddy, and Head of School, Lindsay Charlton, to take part in the school's 'Parliament Day', ahead of their visit with Thrussington CofE Primary School, to Parliament in November. I also took the opportunity to talk with Mrs Roddy about school funding, the success of the school and plans for the future, and the challenges posed at school drop off and pick up time by parking and traffic issues in the village.
Edward said: “One of the most interesting aspects of my role as a local MP is taking questions from young people at schools that I am invited to visit. The questions from school pupils are more often than not much more insightful and more challenging in their openness and bluntness that those posed by journalists or other politicians, and the 'question time' I had with the students in Queniborough after speaking to them about Parliament and how it works was no exception to that!
I was hugely impressed by the amount of work the young people had done in preparing their questions, and by their interest in democracy and the issues affecting our community and country - they should, rightly, all be very proud of themselves.”
