As part of his campaign for improvements to the Thrussington/ Seagrave A46 crossover junction that Edward has been leading with Cllr James Poland for some years, he has called on National Highways to meet with him, and County Cllrs Poland and Shepherd, once again to discuss the next steps to improve the junction, following previous meetings with them, and the progress that Edward, Cllr Poland & Parish Councillors helped drive last year in getting National Highways to work with Leicester City Football Club on getting on with the junction improvement works they had to undertake following the construction of their Seagrave Training Ground.
While, in law, LCFC could only be required as part of their planning permission to take steps to address the direct impact of their training ground, and not any pre-existing problems with the junction, hence the very limited nature of the changes they are making, National Highways have the long-term responsibility for the A46 and junction, and Edward is pressing them once again, as in previous years, to think innovatively about how to improve safety at this junction, and to fund future works.
Edward said: "As local residents will be aware, as Seagrave and Thrussington's local MP, alongside local Councillor James Poland, Parish Councillors, and local residents, we have been pressing for action to improve safety at this junction for some years. While National Highways have previously been clear that they do not plan to upgrade the junction or have funds allocated to do so, it is vital that, once LCFC's changes to the junction are both fully completed and bedded in, National Highways takes responsibility and takes another look at this junction to see what further action can be taken to make it safer. Following previous meetings with National Highways I have arranged, including a site meeting at the junction, in 2022 and 2023, I am calling on National Highways to meet with me and colleagues once again to plan for the future, and we will continue our long-standing campaign pressing for future funding to be allocated by them to this junction."
