Edward has joined staff and member at Birstall’s Nationwide branch to mark the its 50 years of serving the people of Birstall and beyond, and to hear from the branch manager, Alex and staff team about the branch's important work at the heart of the community.
With almost 42% of households in Charnwood containing a Nationwide member, Edward took the opportunity to discuss the importance of face-to-face banking access in a town, alongside changing ways people choose to bank, to give them a choice that suits them, be it online, or in person in a branch. Edward also heard about the branch’s engagement with the community, for example through the Money Lessons programme in schools, and the support Nationwide makes available to members with money worries, on to protect themselves against fraud.
Following the visit, Edward said: “Nationwide’s Birstall branch plays an important role in the village life, and the lives of those bank there. Alongside modern ways of banking, an accessible branch that people can visit, in their community, where the team can offer advice and support face-to-face, is hugely valued by a large number of my constituents. It was great to learn from the Nationwide team that access to local branches remains a key part of their offer to people who bank with them. I’m very grateful to Alex and the Nationwide staff in Birstall for the warm welcome they offered me, but also for their insight into the Money Lessons financial education programme in schools, as well as Nationwide’s work more broadly to counter, and educate people about fraud. As Birstall’s Nationwide branch celebrate its 50th anniversary year, I wish them a belated very happy birthday!”
