Edward has called on CrossCountry Trains to improve rail links between Syston and Melton Mowbray with his campaign for trains on the Leicester - Melton Mowbray - Stansted Airport cross-country route to stop at Syston as well.
The Leicester to Stansted Airport service, run by CrossCountry Trains, passes through Syston station on its way to Melton, but doesn’t stop in the town. Edward has pressed CrossCountry Trains to explore adding a Syston stop to improve the town’s transport links, and has called on their Managing Director to set out any legal or practical barriers to such a proposal so they can be overcome.
Commenting on his campaign for better transport links, Edward said: “Syston and Melton Mowbray are both important neighbouring towns, but there is no direct rail service between them. It is crazy that the much valued service from Leicester to Melton, and beyond, passes through Syston but doesn’t stop there. I am calling on CrossCountry Trains to explore a stop on this service at Syston station to better connect these two important, vibrant, local towns, and others, and to improve the public transport routes available to local Syston residents.”
