During Parliament Week 2024, Thurmaston’s local MP, Edward Argar, has joined students at Bishop Ellis RC Primary School in the village for ‘MPs Question Time’ as part of their study of democracy and Parliament.
UK Parliament Week takes place annually, helping to stimulate interest among young people in what Parliament is, what it does and how they can get involved. In 2023 over 1.6 million people took part in every nation and region of the UK, and countries all over the world, and this year there has been huge interest once again.
Edward said: “It was, as always, great to be invited to visit Bishop Ellis RC Primary School in Thurmaston, to take part in their Parliament Week activities with the students. Whenever I visit a school, the ‘MP Question Time’ by students is always lively, with young people asking a wide range of challenging questions, and this was no exception! My congratulations to all the students on the work they’d put in to preparing their questions, and my thanks to all the staff at Bishop Ellis for their work in teaching the students about how our democracy works, and how important and precious it is.”
