Following frequent flooding in Cossington's Main Street after heavy rainfall, Edward, as Cossington's local MP, convened a meeting in the village with senior Severn Trent Water representatives, local residents, Cossington Parish Council, County Councillor James Poland, and Leicestershire County Council staff, to find a way forward to put in place short-term measures to reduce flooding risk, alongside long-term solutions to improve surface water drainage in the village.
The discussion was positive and constructive, and focussed on finding solutions. Steps have already been taken to clear existing street drains & gullies of blockages, and in response to calls by Edward & local residents & councillors, STW set out plans to investigate the underlying causes of the flooding, whether Cossington's street drainage network was draining properly, and whether any engineering works need to be undertaken to increase the street drainage system's capacity, and to repair any blockages or damage to the drainage system.
Edward said: "I am determined to work with STW, the County Council, Cossington Parish Council, and local residents to help ensure a long-term solution to Cossington's flooding issues is delivered. The meeting I called on site in the village, as Cossington's local MP, to drive forward action on a long-term solution was extremely positive and constructive, with STW and LCC committing to work collaboratively with residents to investigate the underlying causes of the flooding, and to then work to take any necessary action to repair and improve Cossington's street drainage system and its capacity. I will continue to focus on securing progress, and am grateful to everyone involved for their constructive engagement and approach."
