Following campaigning by Edward and a range of people across the Midlands to get direct flights from our region to Amritsar in India reinstated, the Indian High Commissioner in London has written to Edward to confirm the flights will recommence from late February.
After Edward raised the issue directly with the High Commissioner, he has received a response stating: ".....I am delighted to inform you that Air India is commencing a twice weekly non-stop flight from Birmingham to Amritsar in February this year. The inaugural flight will be on February 20th, 2018. The flights will operate on Tuesdays and Thursdays on a state of the art Boeing 787-7. I am confident that the non-stop service from Birmingham to Amritsar will be of great benefit to the large Indian diaspora residing in Birmingham and the Midlands."
Edward said: "This is fantastic news and I am very grateful to the Indian High Commissioner for all his help in achieving this great result. Alongside direct flights to Delhi, direct flights to Amritsar are hugely important to a large number of people in the Midlands, particularly many Sikhs, so I am pleased that my calls and those of many others for these direct flights to be reinstated have been listened to."
