Edward has joined older people's charity Independent Age for an event in Parliament focussed on the future of social care, ahead of the social care Green Paper due this summer.
He met with Independent Age volunteers and older people involved with the charity to discuss the future of social care and to encourage the Government to seize the opportunity presented by the forthcoming Social Care Green Paper, to deliver a vision for a financially sustainable social care system able to meet the changing demands of the UK's population in the 21st century.
Edward said, “I was delighted to join Independent Age, their volunteers, and the older people they support to hear their thoughts about the future of social care. I fully support the Government in its determination to deliver a social care system to meet the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century. I look forward to the Social Care Green Paper which will give everyone the opportunity to contribute to creating an ambitious vision for our future system of social care that ensures older people, their families, carers, and those working in care get the support they deserve within a system that is financially sustainable.”
