Edward has joined local residents and fundraisers at an event in Thrussington to mark the launch of a new children’s book, ‘The Tumbling Tower of Little Thrussington’ by local resident Anna Harrison, written to raise funds to help repair and restore Thrussington’s church tower.
Historic Holy Trinity Church in Thrussington is now on the 'Heritage At Risk' register, and local fundraisers need to raise £140,000, with £50,00 of which needed for urgent work to repair the tower. Volunteers have had a number of fundraising events in the village and have also been successful with several grants, but there is still much to do to reach the large amount of money needed to start work. The latest fundraising initiative to help raise further funds is a funny rhyming book about a church mouse, Fred who looks around the village with his estate agent, Barry for somewhere new to live because his tower is falling down. The book has been written, illustrated, and compiled by local people and will make a fantastic Christmas present for those who want to start getting presents bought early! The very well attended book launch in the church also included an exhibition of some fabulous photos and information on the history of the village and church provided by the Local History Society, and tea and cake. The book will be on sale in Thrussington Stores in the village, and online through Thrussington CofE Primary School’s PTFA website.
Edward said: “Thrussington’s beautiful historic church is a key part of village life, and repairing and preserving it for future generations of local residents is a hugely important cause. IT was therefore a very real pleasure to join Anna, County Councillor James Poland, and Thrussington residents at the event to raise funds, and to mark the launch of her fantastic children’s book, ‘The Tumbling Tower of Little Thrussington’, which tells the story of Fred the church mouse. It is a wonderful book, and a hugely good cause, so I’d encourage everyone to pop along to Thrussington Stores to buy a copy!”
