Edward has joined campaigners and Opposition MP, Christina Rees, at an event in Parliament to celebrate the Shark Fin Act, steered through Parliament by Ms Rees, coming in to force following it passing in to law on 29th June. Edward spoke in Parliament in the debate on the Bill in 2022, setting out his strong support for the new law, which will ban the import and export of shark fins to promote shark conservation, including banning products containing shark fins. Shark finning is the barbaric & cruel practice of removed a shark's fins at sea, then discarding the rest of the shark. Ms Rees' law builds on the ban on shark finning in the UK, to clamp down on the trade associated with it, and further improve wildlife welfare protections and marine conservation.
Edward said: "It is vitally important we protect our amazing marine wildlife, which is why I was delighted to see this new law, adding further protection to shark's from the barbaric trade in shark fins, pass in to law. I was pleased to have been able to speak in Parliament in 2022 in support of this law, and congratulate Christina Rees MP on her amazing work in turning her Private Members Bill in to a law that will be another step in protecting these extraordinary creatures."
