As part of the NFU’s farmers’ rally and lobby of MPs to highlight the pressures on farming, and the impact of Labour’s ‘family farm tax’, Edward has met local farmers in Parliament to hear from them about the potential impact of the changes to Agricultural Property Relief, and the challenges they are currently facing.
In a wide-ranging discussion they discussed the changes to APR, and its impact on the ability of families to pass farms from generation to generation; but also, among other issues, the impact that weather events, regulation, and the increased costs being faced by local farmers, are having, as well as what farmers are paid for their produce.
Edward said: “It was a real pleasure to welcome local farmers to my office in Parliament to hear directly from them about the pressures they currently face, the impact of the changes to APR - the ‘family farm tax’ - and discuss the vital role that farming and farmers play in our local economy, our nation’s food security, and in protecting and enhancing our environment. I will continue to stand with our farmers in pressing the Government to think again and scrap the ‘family farm tax’, and to back our local farmers”
