Edward has joined huge crowds of people at Melton Mowbray summer institution ‘PieFest’ and ‘SpiritsFest at the Stockyard in the town.
The hugely successful event saw traders and producers showcase and sell their fantastic produce, with experts giving talks and demonstrations in the Pie Theatre on different aspects of pie-making and the history of pies. Events like this, which attract visitors from far and wide to our area, help not only showcase amazing produce in our Rural Capital of Food, but also serve as a reminder of the central role agriculture and food production play in our local rural economy, and the huge contribution our area makes to this country’s food security and breadth of top quality food.
Edward said: “PieFest & SpiritsFest was a fantastic day out, but events like this don’t just happen by themselves. That they are such a huge success is down to the dedicated team of people who work so hard to stage them, and the people who showcase and sell their products at them, and I want to pay tribute to them all.
I particularly want to pay tribute to the organizer, Matthew O’Callaghan, who over the years has done so much to promote and to protect Melton’s local food products & Melton’s place in our national life as the Rural Capital of Food.”
