Edward, along with the six other Leicestershire county MPs, sat down with Chancellor Jeremy Hunt to discuss with him the issue of funding for Leicestershire County Council, the fairer funding campaign he and other county MPs and the County Council are running for the funds available to councils across the country be be distributed in a way that better addresses historic underfunding for Leicestershire over recent decades, and to look into ways we can work with Government to help improve matters.
Edward said: “We all recognise that the overall funding pot for councils has to be fixed in a way that ensures the country can live within its means, but the existing formula to share out that pot of funding has historically been unfair to Leicestershire. As part of the County Council and County MPs long-running joint campaign, it was good to be able to discuss these issues with the Chancellor in a very constructive meeting, as well as to be able to highlight directly to the Chancellor the importance of capital funding in county transport infrastructure, such as the Melton Mowbray By-Pass scheme.”
