Edward has met with the team from Alzheimer's Society and their Ambassador, Angela Rippon CBE, at their drop-in event in Parliament to highlight the importance of dementia training for our social care workforce.
Alongside discussing with the Alzheimer's Society the difference that dementia training can make, Edward took the opportunity to discuss progress on raising awareness of dementia across society; what more can be done to care for, and provide better support for, people with dementia and their families and carers, and recent developments in research to find effective treatments for dementia, and hopefully in time to find a cure.
Edward said: "As people live longer lives, so we are seeing increasing numbers of people diagnosed with, and living with, dementia. Since before I was first elected as an MP in 2015 I have long taken a close interest in dementia, and how we can raise awareness, provide better support to people with dementia and their carers, and drive forward research into the disease and treatments. Having Co-Chaired the APPG on Dementia until 2018, I have continued to take a close interest in dementia, a disease which could potentially affect any of us, whether directly, or through a family member or friend getting the disease, so it was hugely useful to meet once again with the team from the Alzheimer's Society, and Angela Rippon CBE, to discuss progress and the latest developments. Dementia, and improving care, support, and research, remains a priority for me."
