Last week saw significant flooding in Syston, and nearby villages, where the brook water in the town came over it's banks, causing damage to businesses and homes. Edward, as Syston's local MP, has called on the Environment Agency to set out its assessment of what caused the flooding; whether all sluice gates were operated swiftly and in time; what steps the Environment Agency has taken locally to reduce flood risks; what assessment they have made of the maintenance of the brook and the clearing of vegetation and plans in it; and what further steps can be taken.
Edward said: "The recent flooding in Syston, and nearby areas, where the water in the brook came over the banks, significantly affecting local residents and businesses, is of real concern, particularly as we approach winter. As Syston's local MP I have today called on the Environment Agency to provide me with answers on what happened and why.
Given the importance of this issue to local residents I have also asked the Environment Agency's Regional Director to meet with me in Syston urgently to discuss the flooding, and what can be done to reduce future flood risk in the town and nearby villages."
