Edward has met up with local headteacher, Hannah Roddy from Thrussington CofE Primary School, in Parliament as part of the UK Parliament Teacher Ambassador Programme, which Ms Roddy successfully secured a place on.
The Programme is funded by the UK Parliament’s Education and Engagement Service, and enables those participating to engage with parliamentarians and the Speaker about the work of Parliament. Following the programme, teachers will go back to the schools to develop their students' and colleagues' better understanding of the UK Parliament and democracy.
Edward said: “It was a pleasure, as always, to meet up with Ms Roddy, this time in Parliament rather than in Thrussington! It is very competitive to secure a place on the Teacher Ambassador Programme, so I congratulate her on her success.
Engagement and dialogue with young people is fundamental to our democracy, and its future, so programmes like this, helping teachers engage directly with Parliament are hugely important. As well as welcoming Ms Roddy to the House of Commons, we had the opportunity to discuss the recent completition of the new building at Thrussington CofE Primary School, and I look forward to visiting the school again soon.”
