Edward has joined community groups and local residents at an event in Syston, opened by BBC East Midlands Today's Anne Davies, showcasing local community support groups, organised by Syston & District Volunteer Centre.
The event, which took place in Syston's Central Park, was held from 10am and brought together a huge array of local charities, community groups, and other organisations which offer social, cultural, sporting, educational, financial, and other support services to people of all ages in our community. Syston Volunteer Centre, who recruit and place volunteers to provide support, particularly to the elderly, infirm, or rurally isolated in our communities, funded and organised the 'Help is at Hand' event to highlight the wide range of support that is available.
Commenting, Edward said: "I have visited Syston & District Volunteer Centre a number of times since I was first elected as the local MP in 2015, and have seen first-hand their hugely important work in our community. This fantastic event, in the glorious sunshine, not only highlighted the vast range of organisations locally that help to make our area so special, and to make the community as strong as it is, but also provided an opportunity to them to recruit more supporters and members, and raise awareness of all that is on offer. We should all be hugely grateful for all the work of organisations such as those represented in Central Park today."
