A new local Farming Forum has been set up to bring together local Conservative politicians, farmers, to help build an on-going dialogue between them in the Melton and Syston constituency.
The Forum, jointly chaired by County Councillor Bryan Lovegrove, Borough Councillor Simon Orson, and Charlie Chirico met for its inaugural meeting in Scalford Village Hall, and heard speeches from the organisers, from Leicestershire Police and Crime Commissioner Rupert Matthews, and from Edward as Melton and Syston’s local MP. The discussion covered a wide range of issues affecting farming locally, and nationally, including regulation, sustainable farming, rural crime, the cost of farming, supermarket pricing.
Edward said: “Farming is at the heart of our local community here in Melton & Syston, so was a real pleasure to attend the inaugural meeting of the Melton Conservative Farming Forum, the first I hope of many such meetings of the forum, and hear from some very knowledgable contributors. This forum will help build a space for an on-going and constructive dialogue between our local Conservative politicians and our farming community, and I congratulate all those who set up the forum.”
