Edward has signed the Holocaust Educational Trust’s Book of Commitment in Parliament, in doing so pledging his commitment to Holocaust Memorial Day on 27th January, and honouring those who were murdered during the Holocaust as well, as paying tribute to the extraordinary and inspirational Holocaust survivors who work tirelessly to educate young people today.
In the lead up to, and on, Holocaust Memorial Day, thousands of commemorative events will be arranged by schools, faith groups and community organisations across the country, remembering all the victims of the Holocaust and subsequent genocides. The theme for this year’s commemorations is ‘The power of words’.
Edward said: “Holocaust Memorial Day is an important opportunity for people from Charnwood and across the country to reflect on the tragic events of the Holocaust, and to recommit ourselves to ensuring all future generations never forget those dreadful acts. As the Holocaust moves from living history, to history, it is more important than ever that we take the time to remember the victims, pay tribute to the survivors, and continue to challenge anti-semitism and prejudice in all its forms. I would encourage everyone to show their support for such an important day.”
