Edward has raised with Blaby D.C the need for early action to tackle the annual fly infestation problems that have occurred in hot weather each summer in parts of Leicester Forest East. In previous summers some residents of Leicester Forest East, in the Packer Avenue area, have experienced problems with flies as the temperatures increase, and Edward, as LFE's local MP, has worked with local residents, Councillors, and local Councils to try to find solutions and get enforcement action against the causes. It is now time to find a long-term solution to this issue which has a huge impact on local residents.
Blaby D.C's Chief Executive has recently responded very constructively to me, setting out the work that the local Council has done with the Environment Agency, and to identify the premises that are the most likely source of the problem. The business premises they have identified are subject to regulation by the Environment Agency, who therefore are the enforcing authority with the powers to investigate & take action on this issue. Blaby D.C have responded positively to Edward's call for a meeting of all relevant organisations to find a way forward, and he will be assembling the necessary background information to call the Environment Agency to such a meeting in LFE.
Edward said: "Over a number of years as LFE's local MP, alongside local Councillors and local residents, we have been seeking a long-term solution to the problem some local residents experience every year with a significant fly infestation. Despite this work, so far no solution has been found to prevent this infestation becoming an annual event, which has a significant impact on local residents' quality of life each summer. The power to solve this once and for all sits with the Environment Agency and I am calling on them to meet with me, local councillors, and local residents on site, to get working this Spring, ahead of the summer, on a long-term solution for local residents."
