Edward has met with the team from Alzheimer’s Research UK in Parliament to discuss their latest report, and recent exciting developments in research to find treatments for dementia.
As a former Co-Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Dementia, Edward has continued to take a very close interest in the disease, support for those with dementia and those who care for them, and crucially research progress on finding treatments to slow dow progression of the disease, and ultimately to find a cure. He regularly meets with Alzheimer’s Research UK to get updates on progress and investment in the research.
Edward said: “Dementia is an issue I have been actively involved with throughout my time as an MP, and before that, so it is always great to meet the amazing organisations working to support people, and to develop treatments and find a cure for this cruel disease.
With 1 million people estimated to be living with dementia by 2025, it is more important than ever that they get the support they need, and that we redouble our efforts to find a cure. The exciting news over the summer about clinical trial results for two new drugs to treat dementia, Lecanemab and Donanemab, are very encouraging, and I pay tribute to Alzheimer’s Research UK, and all those involved in the research to beat this disease. This is something that can affect us all, whether we are someone who gets dementia, or is a relative or friend of someone who does, so I will continue campaigning on, and taking a close interest in, this hugely important issue.”
