Edward has met with members of the Alpine House Surgery Patient Participation Group (PPG) doctors, and surgery staff in Mountsorrel to discuss the work of the practice, and the challenges and opportunities it sees in the future.
As a busy GP surgery, Alpine House is fortunate to have an active Patient Participation Group (PPG) speaking up for the issues that matter to patients. Edward was delighted to attend as the local Member of Parliament to be shown around the new wing of the surgery and to hear directly from patients and Senior Management about issues facing Alpine House. Topics included the operation of the funding formula for GP practices, staffing in primary care settings and challenges arising from new housing developments leading to increased patient lists. Feedback and recommendations from PPGs help to shape the decisions taken by local Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) commissioning services for patients and carers.
Edward attended the meeting at the invitation of the PPG members and listened carefully to the issues raised by the PPG about the provision of health care for residents, and he will be taking up the issues discussed with local agencies such as Charnwood Borough Council and the Clinical Commissioning Group, as well as speaking to Government Ministers.
After the meeting Edward commented: “It was a real pleasure to visit Alpine House Surgery and meet with the PPG. The surgery does a fantastic job caring for the health of local people in Rothley and Mountsorrel, and the contribution of the PPG to that work, as the patient voice is hugely valuable. I am very grateful to the practice and the PPG for the warm welcome I received, and the insight they provided in to local healthcare issues and primary care, and I look forward to returning to see them all again soon.”
