Edward has met with members of the Kirby Muxloe M1 Interest Group to discuss the noise and pollution experienced by local residents, particularly in Vicarage Close, Glenfield Lane, and nearby streets, from the heavy traffic on the M1. The impact of noise on local people is clear to anyone who visits houses near the motorway, and as volumes of traffic have increased in recent years, so too has noise and pollution. Despite improvements to some sections of the M1, the section running past Leicester Forest East and Kirby Muxloe remains in urgent need of upgrades to improve the road surface and tackle the problems caused by increased heavy traffic. Since being elected Edward has pressed Highways England to tackle this issue, and has joined with local residents to call on Highways England to upgrade this section of the M1 to have a noise-reducing surface, noise barriers alongside sections near houses, and tree planing to reduce pollution.
Commenting, Edward said: "Joy Sell and the Kirby Muxloe M1 Interest Group have been campaigning tirelessly since 2004 for improvements to this section of motorway to reduce the impact of motorway traffic on local residents, and it was a pleasure to meet them in Kirby Muxloe. I fully support their calls for Highways England to do more to address this problem, and will be pressing them to deliver real improvements for local people in Kirby Muxloe and LFE."
