Edward has joined local Thurmaston residents to speak at an event held by the Adhar Project in Thurmaston Community Centre to mark World Mental Health Day.
The Adhar Project are a Leicester-based charity, established in 1989, to provide community services and community support to people suffering from mental health difficulties, or loneliness. The charity is focussed on delivering for BAME groups, but not exclusively so, and the event in Thurmaston marked the extension of their services in to the County, in Thurmaston, and the establishment of a Friday drop-in service at the Community Centre for elderly people to help tackle isolation and loneliness, and to provide support and advice.
Edward said: “The Adhar Project event in Thurmaston brought together people from across the community for a full programme of performances, talks, socialising, and advice to mark the launch of their loneliness and mental health advice and support service in Thurmaston. Loneliness, isolation, and mental health concerns arising from it can particularly impact older people, so this service will make a real difference. It was a pleasure to attend and speak at the event, to meet the team from the Adhar Project, and local residents who attended, and I very much welcome the extension of their service from Leicester to Thurmaston, with the launch of these new walk-in sessions.”
