Edward has spoken in support of the Cossington Village Centre Project, alongside local Councillor James Poland and members of the Project Team, at a public meeting held in the village to help move the project to its next stage, and officially launch its fundraising efforts.
The Cossington Village Centre Project aims to help conserve and re-purpose Cossington's historic church building with a new extension, in keeping with the historic setting, to provide facilities such as a kitchen, cloakrooms and toilets, and meeting space, and to restore the interior of the church, both preserving it for worship, and simultaneously creating a fantastic new community centre space for the village. Cossington's current village hall (The Jubilee Hall) is over 40 years old and is coming to the end of its life, and the Village Centre Project Team, run by local volunteers in the village, represents a fantastic opportunity to address this, and see the Church, which has been at the centre of village life for centuries, continue to be so for hopefully centuries to come.
Having secured the necessary planning and other permissions for the design and changes, the next step is to raise the funds needed to deliver the project. Anyone interested in supporting the project can visit the project's webpage at www.ourcossington.org
Edward said: "This is a project I have long supported as Cossington's local MP, over a number of years, so it was great to see such a packed public meeting supporting it, and to see the amazing hard work of the local volunteers paying dividends and moving this a big step further to becoming a reality. Cossington is a fantastic village, with a great pub and local school, but as a growing village the need for a fit-for-purpose community space for meetings, clubs, social events etc is more pressing than ever. It is fitting that this project seeks to ensure the village church, for so long the place in the village that has brought people together, will continue to do so for many years to come, and it was a pleasure to speak at the meeting to offer my full support to the project and its fundraising efforts."
