Unemployment in Charnwood is down on this time last year, and our area has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the UK, according to new statistics.
The latest set of unemployment data for the UK, published this week, has shown the total number of unemployed claimants in the Charnwood constituency in July 2017 was 345, down by 25 from the same month in 2016.
The figures represent an unemployment claimant rate of 0.7% of the economically active population in Charnwood aged 16-64 - this means that Charnwood has the 13th lowest unemployment rate out of all 650 UK constituencies.
Commenting on the figures, Edward said: “These figures are great news for Charnwood, with the constituency having one of the highest proportions of people in work in the whole of the UK, and one of the lowest unemployment rates. The number of people unemployed locally is lower than it was at this time last year, and it is important that we continue to build on this sucess, and on the Government's strong track record of getting more people in to work in this country than ever before."
