Leicestershire County Council has agreed to take action to clear blocked street drains and gullies in Birstall, following Edward taking the issue up with the Council's Chief Executive.
After meeting Councillor Ann Marshall, Chair of Birstall Parish Council, to see the problem for himself, Edward pressed the County Council to tackle the problem, which they have now committed to doing. Some of the worst examples have already been cleared, with LCC committing to an on-going programme to clear other blocked street drains in Birstall over the next few months, before the winter.
Edward said: "I'm grateful to the County Council for acting so swiftly after I raised with them the concerns of local people and the Parish Council about blocked street drains and potential flooding of roads in Birstall. Initial steps have already been taken to clear some drains, with others due to be cleared over the coming weeks. As winter approaches, its vital that these works are carried out to avoid flooding and inconvenience for pedestrians and road users, and I will be keeping a close eye on progress."
