Edward has called on Arla Foods’ UK Managing Director to meet with him to update him on the steps they are taking to support local employees whose jobs are affected by their decision earlier this year to close their Tuxford and Tebbutt stilton business in Melton Mowbray. He has also called on the company to set out their longer-term plans for the site, and what their intentions are in respect of the brand name & whether they would consider selling it to another producer.
Edward said: “It was deeply disappointing that, earlier this year, Arla Foods announced their decision to cease stilton at Tuxford and Tebbutt in Melton Mowbray. Stilton is an iconic British, and Melton, food product so it is sad to see one of the few stilton producers ceasing production. In making their commercial decision it is important, however, that Arla Foods set out what they are doing to support staff whose jobs are at risk, as well as providing clarity to people as to what their plans are for the brand and town centre site.”
