As part of his campaign for improvements to the Thrussington/ Seagrave A46 crossover junction, that Edward has been leading, alongside Cllr James Poland & local residents, he has held a site meeting at the junction with National Highways to discuss the road safety issues at the junction, and local residents' concerns, following him having previously met with them in Parliament to raise concerns about the junction.
At the meeting Edward and Seagrave Parish Councillor Paul Simpson discussed with representatives of National Highways not only the issues at the junction, but the importance of them working with Leicester City Football Club to enable progress on the junction improvement works LCFC have to undertake following the construction of their Seagrave Training Ground. National Highways have the long-term responsibility for the A46 and junction, and Edward & Cllr Simpson both highlighted the need for long-term improvements to the junction, and different options that could potentially deliver improved safety.
Edward said: "As local residents will be aware, as Seagrave and Thrussington's local MP, I have taken a close interest in the road safety issues at what I consider to be a dangerous junction, and have been pressing for action to improve safety here. It was a pleasure be joined Parish Councillor Paul Simpson, who has done a huge amount of work on this issue, to meet on site with representatives of National Highways to enable them to see first-hand the problems, and safety issues, with this junction, as well as to talk through with them immediate next steps with the LCFC works at the junction, and potential longer-term options. While National Highways have previously stated that they do not currently plan to upgrade the junction nor have funds allocated to do so, I will continue my campaign pressing for future funding to be allocated by them to deliver much needed improvements at this junction."
